Majestic Theatre Tickets: How They Work

Tickets go on sale production by production, because the Majestic does not run a season of its own, so you buy for a specific show and date, not for the theater. Telecharge is the Shubert Organization’s ticketing service, and the theater has its own box office at 245 W 44th St. The ticket listings at the bottom of this page come from a third-party marketplace, so prices can run above face value.

Purple Rain ticket sale dates

The official 48-hour fan presale begins September 22, 2026 at 12 p.m. Eastern, and the general on-sale begins September 24 at 12 p.m. Eastern. Broadway previews begin March 12, 2027, followed by opening night on April 12.

Official Majestic Theatre tickets

For face-value tickets, start with Telecharge, the Shubert Organization’s official ticketing service, or buy directly from the Majestic Theatre box office. The production’s official website is the correct source for presale access. Marketplace inventory can be useful when official seats are limited, but prices may be above face value.

Majestic Theatre box office

The box office is at the theater, 245 W 44th St. Its hours change when the theater is between productions, so confirm them before you make a special trip.

Majestic Theatre group tickets

Group-ticket availability and minimum party size are set by the production. Shubert directs group buyers to Broadway Inbound; confirm the current Purple Rain group policy before organizing payment or transportation.

Buy for the show, then choose the seat

Start with the production and date, then compare sections. Prices vary by seat and performance, so check the face value before you pay a premium. When you are ready to choose, the Majestic Theatre seating guide compares the sections.

Look for rush and lottery options

Many Broadway productions offer day-of rush or lottery tickets. Each production sets its own policy and announces it once the show is on sale. Our Broadway rush and lottery guide explains how they work.

Majestic Theatre West 44th Street, New York, NY: Getting There

Address
Majestic Theatre, 245 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036

Between Broadway and 8th Avenue in the Theater District. The Broadhurst and Shubert theatres are a few doors along the same block, and the St. James is across the street.

By subway

The nearest stations are 42nd Street–Port Authority (A, C, E) on 8th Avenue and Times Square–42nd Street (1, 2, 3, N, Q, R, W, 7, S), both a short walk away. Our guide to getting to a Broadway show covers transit, rideshare and timing.

By car

Pre-show traffic around Times Square is slow. A reserved garage spot or a car-service drop-off works better than circling the block. See parking near Broadway.

Timing your arrival

Doors open about 30 minutes before curtain, and latecomers are seated at management’s discretion. Aim to arrive 25 to 30 minutes early, and allow extra time if you are sitting in the mezzanine, which is 51 steps up.

Dinner before the show

West 44th Street sits in the middle of the pre-show restaurant zone. Hell’s Kitchen begins a few blocks west and often gets you better value than the closest options. Be seated about 90 minutes before curtain. See the pre-show dining guide, restaurants near Broadway and the best restaurants in the Theater District.

Where to stay

Most Times Square and Midtown hotels are an easy walk. See hotels near Broadway and the Theater District neighborhood guide.

Accessibility, Stairs and Mobility at the Majestic

The stairs: what to know before you book

The mezzanine is on the second level, up three flights of stairs, 51 steps in all, with the entrance behind row G of the front mezzanine. Inside, expect about two steps per row. There is no elevator or escalator. If stairs are difficult, book the orchestra.

Orchestra and wheelchair seating

There are no steps from the sidewalk into the theater, but the Shubert Organization notes that it is not completely wheelchair accessible and cannot provide assistance where there are steps. In the orchestra, rows AA to H are step-free and steps begin at row I. The four wheelchair spaces, in rows C and D, have no steps to reach them, and there are 17 aisle seats with folding armrests for guests who can transfer.

Handrails and restrooms

Handrails are at every stepped row except in the mezzanine and rear orchestra, where they are only on the far side aisles. The theater has a wheelchair-accessible restroom.

Listening, captioning and audio description

Infrared assistive listening devices are available at every performance. From four weeks after a show’s official opening night, hand-held audio description and captioning devices, plus downloadable options for personal devices, are free. Before that point, live CART captioning can be arranged on request with two weeks’ notice. Contact Shubert Audience Services at 212-944-3700 or audienceservices@shubertorg.com.

Majestic Theatre Broadway History and Notable Productions

The Chanin Brothers built the Majestic in 1927 as a large musical house in a three-theater complex with the Royale and the Theatre Masque, now the John Golden. The idea was that producers could move a show to the house that best fit its ticket sales. The Chanins transferred all three theaters to the Shuberts in 1930.

Herbert Krapp designed the complex in what he called a modern Spanish style, with a terra-cotta base and a stylized Palladian motif above the entrance. The interior has the Adam-style detailing common to many Shubert houses, a steeply raked orchestra and a single large balcony instead of two smaller ones. The facade and the lobby and auditorium interior are both New York City landmarks, designated in 1987.

1927
The Majestic opens with the revue Rufus LeMaire’s Affairs, built by the Chanin Brothers as a large musical house alongside the Royale and the Theatre Masque.
1945–53
Rodgers and Hammerstein premiere four musicals here in a row: Carousel, Allegro, South Pacific (1949, winner of the Tony and the Pulitzer Prize) and Me and Juliet.
1957
The Music Man makes Robert Preston a star.
1960
Camelot premieres with Julie Andrews, Richard Burton and Robert Goulet.
1981
42nd Street transfers from the Winter Garden. The theater is then renovated for its next long-running tenant.
1988
The Phantom of the Opera opens on January 26.
2023
Phantom closes on April 16 after 13,981 performances, the longest run in Broadway history at that point.
2026
Beaches plays previews from March 27, opens April 22 and closes early on May 24.
2027
Purple Rain is announced next, with previews from March 12 and an April 12 opening.
