Rockefeller Center is a cluster of Art Deco towers between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in the high 40s and low 50s, with a sunken plaza at its heart where the rink sits and the Christmas tree goes up every November. 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the tallest of them, holds NBC’s studios and the Top of the Rock observation deck. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is across Fifth Avenue, Radio City Music Hall is across Sixth, and MoMA is a few blocks north.
That makes hotels near Rockefeller Center, or Rock Center as most locals shorten it, some of the most convenient in Manhattan for sightseeing, and some of the most expensive. No hotel sits on the plaza itself, so every option here involves a walk. The real decisions are which side of the complex to stay on and how much the last few blocks are worth to you. And if you’re coming in December, the whole neighborhood runs on different rules.

Quick Picks: Rockefeller Center Hotels by Trip Type
Walk times are to the rink and tree plaza at a normal pace on an ordinary day. In December, add a few minutes for crowds on Fifth Avenue.
Best Hotels Near Rockefeller Center
These are the best hotels close to Rockefeller Center across every price band, from budget hotel rooms near Rockefeller Center to five-star suites, ordered by how long the walk takes. Gold cards sit on the Fifth Avenue side, blue cards on the Sixth Avenue side, and green cards trade a longer walk for a lower rate or more space.
DoubleTree by Hilton New York Midtown Fifth Ave
25 West 51st Street, between Fifth & Sixth Avenues
The name says Fifth Avenue, but the hotel is mid-block on West 51st, which for practical purposes puts it inside Rockefeller Center. Radio City is at the Sixth Avenue end of the block, the Top of the Rock entrance is one street south on 50th, and the American Girl store is steps away. It has about 230 rooms on 26 floors and was renovated in 2023.
Rooms are comfortable business-hotel standard rather than memorable, and the cooked-to-order breakfast costs extra. What you’re paying for is the walk: in December you can finish dinner, see the tree and be back upstairs in minutes.
Lotte New York Palace
455 Madison Avenue, at 50th Street
Across Madison from the back of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Palace wraps around the Villard Houses, a set of 1880s mansions whose courtyard is the hotel’s front door. It’s big, with 909 rooms and suites, a spa and fitness center, and family suites that sleep more people than most Midtown rooms can. Some rooms look straight onto the cathedral.
In December, guests write about the courtyard decorations and a holiday bar out front, and the walk to the tree is a straight line west on 50th Street, past the cathedral and across Fifth Avenue. It’s priced like the luxury hotel it is, and its size means the lobby is rarely quiet.
Warwick New York
65 West 54th Street, at Sixth Avenue
William Randolph Hearst built the Warwick in 1926, and it still has the bones of a grand Midtown hotel: about 426 rooms, Randolph’s bar, and Murals on 54, a restaurant named for the Dean Cornwell murals on its walls. Booking.com guests rate the location 9.6 out of 10, which on these blocks says a lot.
It’s on the Sixth Avenue side, so Radio City, MoMA and the south end of Central Park are all easy, and the plaza is a short walk down Sixth. Rooms are classic and some run compact. The hotel lists a $29 nightly facility fee, plus tax, on top of the room rate, so compare totals.

New York Hilton Midtown
1335 Avenue of the Americas, between 53rd & 54th Streets
With close to 1,900 rooms, this is one of the largest hotels in the city, and for most travelers it’s the answer to “is there a Hilton near Rockefeller Center?” It’s on Sixth Avenue a few blocks north of the plaza, with an 8,000-square-foot gym, a grab-and-go kitchen downstairs, and Executive Suites with sofa beds that work for a family.
It sits on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route, and the hotel sells parade-view rooms with multi-night minimums. Guests rate the location highly and the value less so, so compare it with the Warwick across 54th Street before booking on points alone.
Omni Berkshire Place
21 East 52nd Street, at Madison Avenue
A 1926 hotel on a calmer stretch of East 52nd, a block off Fifth Avenue and close to the 5 Av/53 St subway. Booking.com guests score both comfort and location above 9, Berkshire Suites come with a sofa bed, and pets are welcome.
The lobby is quieter than the big Sixth Avenue towers. Guests note that a fridge and coffee maker aren’t standard in every room, though the hotel will bring them on request, and on-site parking runs about $85 a day.
The Peninsula New York
700 Fifth Avenue, at 55th Street
A 1905 Beaux-Arts landmark on the priciest stretch of Fifth Avenue, run by Hong Kong’s Peninsula group since 1988 and rated Forbes Five-Star for 17 years in a row. There’s a glass-enclosed indoor pool, a full spa and a rooftop bar, and service runs with the precision the brand is known for.
The walk down Fifth to the tree takes under ten minutes and passes St. Patrick’s on the way. Expect rates well above everything else on this page.
citizenM New York Times Square
218 West 50th Street, between Broadway & Eighth Avenue
Small, well-designed rooms of about 14 square meters, each with a king bed, a rain shower and a tablet that runs the lights and blinds. There are three outdoor terraces and a rooftop bar. It’s on the same street as Top of the Rock, so the walk is a straight line east on 50th, past Radio City.
There are no extra beds, so it suits couples and solo travelers rather than families. It isn’t a budget hotel, but it’s good value for the quality, and Broadway is around the corner for the evening.
Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Times Square
1033 Avenue of the Americas, between 38th & 39th Streets
Every one of the 357 rooms has a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and dishwasher, and the breakfast buffet is included. For a family, that’s the difference between buying three restaurant meals a day and buying one.
It’s just south of Bryant Park, so getting to the plaza means a dozen blocks up Sixth Avenue or one stop on the B, D, F or M from 42 St–Bryant Park to 47–50 Sts–Rockefeller Center. A few guests mention avenue and elevator noise, so ask for a higher floor.
Pod 51
230 East 51st Street, between Second & Third Avenues
One of the cheapest ways to sleep within walking distance of the plaza. Rooms are compact pods, some with shared bathrooms, on a tree-lined block with a rooftop terrace and Clinton Hall’s beer hall downstairs.
The walk west on 51st crosses Lexington, Park and Madison before reaching St. Patrick’s. The 6 train at 51st Street is close for heading uptown or down to Grand Central.
Map of Hotels Near Rockefeller Center
The map opens on Rockefeller Plaza, with Fifth Avenue and St. Patrick’s to the right and Sixth Avenue and Radio City to the left. Add your dates, then read it by avenue. Hotels between Madison and Sixth from 47th to 54th Street are the short-walk zone. Rates often ease east of Park Avenue or south of 45th Street.
Prices and availability come from booking partners and change by date. We may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.

Hotels Closest to Rockefeller Center
Rockefeller Center is a campus, not a single door. The rink and the tree sit in the sunken plaza between 49th and 50th Streets, the Channel Gardens lead in from Fifth Avenue, and the Top of the Rock entrance is on 50th Street between Fifth and Sixth. So which hotels near Rockefeller Plaza count as closest depends on where you’re going first.
On the doorstep
DoubleTree Midtown Fifth Ave on West 51st. Nothing else on this list comes close.
A short stroll
Lotte New York Palace and Omni Berkshire on the Fifth Avenue side, the Warwick and Hilton Midtown up Sixth.
Hotels Near 30 Rockefeller Plaza and Top of the Rock
30 Rockefeller Plaza is the 70-story tower that rises behind the rink, home to NBC and to Top of the Rock. You enter the observation deck on West 50th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, under a red sidewalk carpet across from Radio City. There’s no hotel inside 30 Rock, so for hotels near 30 Rockefeller Plaza the straightest walks are from the DoubleTree on 51st Street and citizenM on West 50th, with the Sixth Avenue hotels close behind.
Staying this close makes sunset easy to time: go up, come back to change, and head out to dinner without a cab. Time slots, ticket types and the best hour to go are covered in our Top of the Rock guide, and the rest of the complex in our Rockefeller Center guide.
Hotels Near the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
The tree changes the math on this whole page. From the lighting in early December through New Year’s, the blocks around the plaza fill shoulder to shoulder after dark, Fifth Avenue’s sidewalks slow to a shuffle, and Midtown hotel rates climb. Staying close is less about saving time and more about choosing when you see it.
Dates as announced by Rockefeller Center in September 2026.
Closest Hotels to the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
The tree stands at the head of the rink, in front of 30 Rock. Hotels on 50th and 51st Streets have the shortest walk: the DoubleTree is a couple of minutes away on West 51st, and from Lotte New York Palace you walk west on 50th past St. Patrick’s and cross Fifth Avenue to the Channel Gardens. Approaching from Fifth gives you the postcard view, down the gardens to the tree with the tower behind it.
Hotels With a View of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree?
We couldn’t verify a single hotel that sells a room with a view of the tree. The tree stands inside the plaza, boxed in on every side by Rockefeller Center’s own buildings, and no hotel faces onto it. Lists promising tree-view rooms usually mean city views, or simply rooms near Rockefeller Center.
High floors in nearby towers can look toward the top of 30 Rock, which isn’t the same thing. If a hotel tells you a particular room sees the tree, ask for that in writing on your reservation before you pay extra for it.

Best Hotels for Christmas at Rockefeller Center
Decorated courtyard, cathedral across the street, a five-minute walk to the tree.
Fifth Avenue’s windows on the walk down, and an indoor pool for cold afternoons.
Pop out for a late look at the tree and be back upstairs in minutes.
Seeing the Christmas Spectacular too? Radio City is across Sixth Avenue, so any hotel here works. If the show is the main event of your trip, our guide to hotels near Radio City Music Hall is built around show nights and the walk back afterward.
Is It Worth Staying Right Next to the Tree?
Worth it if
It’s your first New York December, you have kids who’ll fade by 8 p.m., or you want photos before the crowds arrive. Being five minutes away lets you go early in the morning and again late at night, the two calmest windows.
Skip it if
You’ll see the tree once and move on, or the budget is tight. Stay farther out and ride to 47–50 Sts–Rockefeller Center on the B, D, F or M. The station is directly under the complex.
The 2026 visiting hours haven’t been announced yet. In past seasons the tree has stayed lit from early morning into late evening, and early mornings have been the quietest time to see it. On lighting night itself, expect closed streets and controlled viewing areas around the plaza; a nearby hotel won’t get you inside them.
When to Book for the Rockefeller Christmas Tree
Book lighting week and the weekends before Christmas as early as you can, because the best-located rooms go first and rates rise as the dates fill. Choose a refundable rate so you can rebook if prices drop. Compare the total, with taxes and nightly fees, rather than the headline rate. And if you’re flexible, the stretch after New Year’s, while the tree is still up, is usually calmer and cheaper than mid-December.

Fifth Avenue vs Sixth Avenue: Where to Stay Near Rockefeller Center
The complex runs between the two avenues, and the hotels on either side feel noticeably different. Neither is better. They suit different trips.
The Fifth Avenue side
St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Saks Fifth Avenue and the luxury flagships, plus the Channel Gardens approach to the tree. Hotels here lean upscale and the side streets go quiet in the evening. Grand Central is an easy walk east and south.
Best for: shoppers, couples, holiday windows, luxury stays.

Neighborhood guide: Midtown East
The Sixth Avenue side
Radio City, MoMA a couple of blocks north, and an easy walk to Times Square and the Broadway theaters. Hotels are bigger and more numerous, the subway options are better, and the evenings are livelier.
Best for: families, show nights, first-timers who want everything close.

Cheap and Best-Value Hotels Near Rockefeller Center
Be realistic: Rockefeller Center isn’t a cheap-hotel district, and the price of a short walk is built into every rate around it. Real savings here come from one of three trades: a smaller room, a longer walk, or different dates.
Longer walk
Ten minutes south or east usually lowers the rate. The Residence Inn saves on breakfast too.
Different dates
January and February, after the tree comes down, are typically the year’s softest months. In Midtown, compare weekend and midweek rates, since business travel can push weeknights up.
Always compare the full price. Many Midtown hotels add a nightly facility or destination fee on top of taxes, and a cheaper-looking rate can end up costing more by checkout. For more low-cost options across the city, see our budget-friendly NYC hotels.
Luxury Hotels Near Rockefeller Center
The luxury stretch runs up Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick’s toward Central Park, and it’s one of the strongest concentrations of top-end hotels in the city. The Peninsula is the polished five-star with a pool. Lotte New York Palace brings Gilded Age public rooms, a cathedral view and serious scale.
Is the premium worth it for location alone? Not really: the Warwick and Hilton Midtown are just as close. What the luxury hotels sell is the room, the service and, in December, the atmosphere. If you’re marking an anniversary or a once-a-year holiday trip, that can be worth paying for. More options are in our guide to luxury NYC hotels for special occasions.
Best Hotels Near Rockefeller Center for Families
For family hotels near Rockefeller Center, room layout matters more than the address. The Residence Inn has kitchenettes and free breakfast. Hilton Midtown has Executive Suites with sofa beds. Lotte New York Palace has family suites that sleep a crowd, and the Warwick can arrange connecting rooms on request. The DoubleTree on 51st is steps from the American Girl store.
Hilton and Marriott Hotels Near Rockefeller Center
If you’re booking for points, here’s how the brands line up around the plaza.
For a Hilton near Rockefeller Center, the DoubleTree is the closest and Hilton Midtown has the most room types. The Residence Inn is the most useful Marriott for this area. Brand affiliations were checked in October 2026.
Rockefeller Center vs Radio City, Times Square and Bryant Park
vs Radio City
Radio City is across Sixth Avenue, so the hotel lists overlap. The difference is the reason you’re coming. Stay here for the plaza, the tree, Top of the Rock and Fifth Avenue. If a show or concert is the anchor, use our guide to hotels near Radio City Music Hall, built around show nights.
vs Times Square
About ten minutes’ walk west. Times Square puts Broadway at the door, with more hotels and more noise. Rockefeller Center is calmer at night and closer to Fifth Avenue. Compare with hotels near Times Square.
vs Bryant Park
About ten blocks south on Sixth Avenue, quieter and greener, with the library and the park’s winter rink and market. It works well if you want Midtown without the crush. See the Bryant Park neighborhood guide.
Is Rockefeller Center a Good Area to Stay in NYC?
Why it works
- Dead center for sightseeing: Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s, Radio City, MoMA and Top of the Rock on foot.
- The B, D, F and M underneath, with the E, M, 1 and 6 a few blocks away.
- Walkable to Times Square, Bryant Park and Central Park’s south edge.
- Mostly office blocks, so it’s calmer at night than the Theater District.
What to know
- Expensive year-round, and much more so in December.
- Heavy crowds around the plaza from the tree lighting to New Year’s.
- Less neighborhood feel; dinner options thin out on the office blocks late at night.
- Fifth Avenue traffic and sidewalks are slow during the holidays.
It suits first-time visitors, holiday trips and anyone whose plan is mostly landmarks. If you want late nights and neighborhood bars, Hell’s Kitchen or downtown will feel more alive. For dinner near your hotel, start with our guide to the best restaurants near Rockefeller Center.

When to Book a Hotel Near Rockefeller Center, and What It Costs

- Book refundable for holiday dates, then check back; rates move.
- Ask for a high floor away from the avenue if you’re a light sleeper.
- Check breakfast. It’s included at the Residence Inn and extra at most others here.
