Oct 28 – Nov 15 City Center Mainstage 2 hrs 30 min Limited run

Three hot July days in Washington Heights, three short weeks on West 55th Street.

In the Heights returns to New York for a three-week engagement at New York City Center, October 28 through November 15, 2026. It’s City Center’s annual gala presentation this year, a full production on the Mainstage directed by David Mendizábal and choreographed by Mayte Natalio, with Matte Martinez as Usnavi and Natalie Venetia Belcon as Abuela Claudia.

This is your guide to In the Heights tickets for the 2026 run: what’s available, the $28 programs worth knowing about, the full performance schedule, the cast, how long it runs and how to plan a night around West 55th Street. One thing up front: it’s not on Broadway this time, and Lin-Manuel Miranda isn’t in the cast. More on both below.

01 · Tickets

In the Heights Tickets

This fall, all In the Heights musical tickets are for the City Center engagement, Oct 28 through Nov 15. That’s a short window: three weeks, roughly 22 performances, in a large but busy Midtown house with a subscriber and member base that buys early. Availability and price change performance by performance, so a Tuesday evening and a Saturday night can look very different.

  • Fixed dates or specific seats? Book sooner. There’s no long run to fall back on if your night sells through.
  • Flexible? Compare several performances across all three weeks before you choose. Midweek evenings are usually the easiest place to find better seats.
  • Buying for a group? City Center caps regular purchases at eight tickets per household address. Groups of 10 or more go through City Center’s group sales.

City Center sells tickets directly and notes that resale tickets aren’t guaranteed by the venue. Whatever you buy, check the date, time and seat section carefully before you check out.

02 · Deals

Cheap & Discount In the Heights Tickets

This is the best part of this production. City Center has committed 10,000 tickets priced at $28 or less across the three-week run, through four official programs. That’s real, not a promo code, and it’s the first place budget buyers should look.

$28

Heights Rush

City Center’s signature $28 program for this show. Rush seats come with lower purchase limits, aren’t transferable and aren’t guaranteed. Check City Center’s Heights Rush page for how and when they’re released.

$28

Access Club

Free to join if you’re 40 or under. Verify your age with photo ID online and you can buy $28 tickets, fees included, in advance or same day at the box office. Two per person per production, subject to availability.

$5

Community Ticket Initiative

$5 tickets distributed through eligible NYC-based nonprofits to the communities they serve. Organizations apply through City Center, not individuals.

$10

Student Matinee

A Wednesday, Nov 4 performance for NYC public schools, grades 6–12. City Center says it’s sold out, with a waitlist for schools.

If you don’t qualify for any of these, the regular routes still apply: midweek dates, flexible timing and comparing seat locations. Our rush and lottery guide and last-minute tickets guide cover how day-of buying works around town.

06 · Who’s In It

In the Heights 2026 Cast

The In the Heights cast for 2026 is a brand-new company, not the original Broadway cast and not the 2021 movie cast. Here are the principals.

Usnavi

Matte Martinez

The bodega owner at the center of the block and the show’s narrator. It’s the role that made Lin-Manuel Miranda a star, and it’s Martinez’s for this run.

Abuela Claudia

Natalie Venetia Belcon

The neighborhood’s matriarch and its moral compass. Belcon is a Broadway veteran (the original Gary Coleman in Avenue Q).

Nina

Jaci Calderon

The first in her family to go away to college, now home for the summer with news she isn’t ready to share.

Vanessa

Ashley De La Rosa

Works at the salon, dreams of a place downtown and has Usnavi completely tongue-tied.

Daniela

Linedy Genao

Owns the salon and runs the block’s gossip.

Benny

Aaron James McKenzie

Works dispatch at the Rosarios’ car service and has eyes for Nina.

Also featuring: Ishmael Gonzalez (Sonny), Ivan Hernandez (Kevin), Veronica Vazquez-Jackson (Camila), Ilia Isorelýs Paulino (Carla), Cedric Leiba Jr (Piragüero) and Cristian “Chino” Rodriguez (Graffiti Pete), with a full ensemble. Creative team: direction by David Mendizábal, choreography by Mayte Natalio, music direction by Alejandro Senior, arrangements and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman. Casting is subject to change.

07 · The Story

What Is In the Heights About?

The In the Heights musical takes place over three sweltering July days in Washington Heights. Usnavi runs the corner bodega and dreams of the Dominican Republic. Abuela Claudia, who raised half the block, keeps everyone grounded. Nina comes home from college carrying a secret, the salon is on the move, and the rent keeps climbing. As a heat wave settles over Upper Manhattan, the whole neighborhood has to figure out what home means while home keeps changing around them.

It’s a big-hearted ensemble story about family, ambition, immigration, belonging and pride in where you come from, set to a score that blends salsa, merengue, hip-hop and classic Broadway. Plenty of people know the songs from the cast album or the movie. Hearing them live, with a full company dancing, is a different experience.

Why Washington Heights matters to the musical

The neighborhood isn’t just scenery; it’s the main character. The show is rooted in Washington Heights’ largely Dominican and Latino community, in its language, music, businesses and the way neighbors look out for one another. City Center even kicked off this production with a celebration uptown at the United Palace this summer.

See the real block: the A train runs from 59th St–Columbus Circle, a short walk from City Center, up to 181st Street in about 20 minutes. Give yourself a free afternoon before or after the show to see the neighborhood the musical celebrates.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and In the Heights

Lin-Manuel Miranda conceived In the Heights and wrote its music and lyrics, with a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. He started it as a college student, and he originated Usnavi when the show opened on Broadway in 2008. It was the show that introduced him to most theatergoers, years before Hamilton. This year’s gala honors both Miranda and Hudes. To be clear, though: Miranda isn’t listed in the 2026 cast. Matte Martinez plays Usnavi.

08 · Critics

In the Heights 2026 Reviews

Reviews of the 2026 City Center production aren’t out yet. Performances begin Oct 28, and we’ll summarize what New York critics say about this staging here once they publish.

For context, the show itself has a strong track record. It won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical, among four Tonys that year, and it has been staged all over the world since. But reviews of the original Broadway cast or the movie don’t tell you anything about this cast and this director, so give the new company its own hearing.

09 · Clearing It Up

Is In the Heights on Broadway in 2026?

No.

The 2026 production plays New York City Center, a historic Midtown theater that isn’t one of the 41 Broadway houses. It isn’t Off-Broadway either. It’s City Center’s annual gala presentation: a full, limited-run production.

The confusion is understandable. In the Heights started Off-Broadway in 2007, then moved to Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2008, the same house Hamilton calls home now, and ran until early 2011. For most people, it’s still a “Broadway musical,” which is why it’s searched that way. If you’re curious how the categories differ, see our Broadway vs. Off-Broadway guide.

10 · In the Heights New York 2026

In the Heights Returns to New York in 2026

The In the Heights City Center revival is a full production built for a short, splashy run, not a concert reading or a tour stop. For 2026 that means a new company, a new director in David Mendizábal, new choreography from Mayte Natalio and the original orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman. With 10,000 seats at $28 or less, it’s also one of the more accessible ways to see a major musical in New York this fall. See what else is opening in our best shows of fall 2026 roundup.

11 · The Theater

Where Is In the Heights Playing?

New York City Center Mainstage 131 West 55th Street between 6th & 7th Avenues New York, NY 10019

City Center sits in Midtown, a block from Carnegie Hall and about a 10-minute walk north of Times Square. It’s close enough to the Theater District for a pre-show dinner in Hell’s Kitchen and close enough to Central Park for a matinee-day walk.

Subway: 57th St–7th Ave (N/Q/R/W), 57th St (F) and 7th Ave (B/D/E) are all within a few blocks. See getting to Carnegie Hall for the same block. Driving: our parking near Carnegie Hall guide covers the closest garages.

Is In the Heights good for kids?

City Center hasn’t published an official age recommendation, so we won’t invent one. What we know: the student matinee is aimed at grades 6–12, which is a good sign for tweens and teens. The themes are family, community and chasing your dreams, and the music is high-energy. The bigger question for younger kids is stamina, since 2 hours 30 minutes is a long sit. For more family options, see Broadway shows for families.

Accessibility & special performances

ASL-interpreted performance: Thursday, Nov 5 at 7:30 PM, with reserved seating in view of the interpreters booked through City Center’s separate request form. Community Night: Friday, Nov 6 at 7:30 PM. On the Mainstage, wheelchair locations are on both sides of the orchestra and in mezzanine row G, and free FM assistive listening devices are available in the orchestra lobby with ID. Book accessible seats online, by phone or at the box office, and tell staff your needs when you buy. Our accessibility guide has more.
