SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, or just the Summit NYC to most people, sits at the top of the skyscraper right next to Grand Central, and it isn’t a normal observation deck. Yes, there’s a view, and it’s a good one: the Chrysler Building is close enough to feel like a neighbor, and the Empire State Building lines up to the south. But most people leave talking about the rooms, not the skyline. Floors of mirrors, a ceiling of floating silver balloons, glass boxes you step out onto 1,000 feet above the street.

That’s the trade. SUMMIT in NYC is more show than panorama, and whether that’s worth it depends on what kind of visit you want. This guide covers every current SUMMIT ticket, the real price you’ll pay, the best time slot, and how it stacks up against Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building, Edge and One World Observatory.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Tickets

Whether you search for SUMMIT NYC tickets, SUMMIT One tickets or One Vanderbilt observatory tickets, you’re buying the same thing: timed entry. You pick a date and an entry slot, and the price depends on both. All of them include the core SUMMIT Experience, meaning all three floors, the mirror rooms, Levitation and the terrace. The differences are the add-ons: Ascent (the glass elevator up the outside of the tower), a drink at Après, or a guided tour with skip-the-line entry.

Buying direct from SUMMIT gets you the full menu of slots and bundles, but SUMMIT’s ticket terms say all sales are final, with no refunds for weather or wait times. Resellers like GetYourGuide sell the same timed entry, sometimes with their own cancellation terms. Whichever you use, read the cancellation line before you pay, especially if you’re booking far ahead.

💵 What you’ll really pay

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Ticket Prices

The SUMMIT One Vanderbilt price you see moves with demand. The starting prices below are the floor, not the norm on a Saturday at sunset. Here’s how the total actually comes together.

SUMMIT Experience$44Time slot and date; evenings and sunset run higher
SUMMIT Signature Experience$58Same, plus the drink
Flex at Lunch Package$65Seasonal, through November 19
SUMMIT Ascent$68Time slot and date

SUMMIT Premium Experience$149Set guided-tour times

Last verified October 7, 2026, on summitov.com. Adult online prices; a $3 processing fee applies per order.

The four things that change your total

Time of day. Daytime slots are the cheapest. Evening slots usually cost more, and the ones around sunset carry the highest prices because they sell out first.

Day and season. Weekends, summer and holiday weeks book up faster and price higher than a Tuesday in February.

Add-ons. Ascent adds roughly $24 over general admission at starting prices. A drink at Après adds about $14.

Kids. Children 5 and under don’t need a ticket and enter with a ticket-holding adult. Older kids need their own timed ticket, so price each person in your group when you check out.

🏷 Save without a coupon

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Discounts and Ways to Save

People search for SUMMIT discount tickets and SUMMIT Groupon deals all the time. Here’s the honest picture: SUMMIT doesn’t run public coupon codes, and the biggest saving usually comes from when you go, not where you buy.

Ways that actually work

Go early. A morning slot on a weekday is the cheapest way in, and often the least crowded.

New York residents. SUMMIT offers a resident rate for NYC and Long Island residents, verified by the billing ZIP code on your card.

Military. Active and retired U.S. Armed Forces members can get free or reduced tickets. SUMMIT asks you to contact them for details.

Seasonal packages. The Flex at Lunch package (through November 19) bundles Ascent and food for less than you’d pay separately.

Groups of 15+. SUMMIT books private group visits with their own pricing.

Attraction passes. SUMMIT appears on some multi-attraction city passes, but the lineups change. Only count on a pass if SUMMIT is on its current list, and only buy a pass if you’ll use enough of it to come out ahead.

Be wary of “discount” sites. If a third-party price looks far below SUMMIT’s own daytime rate, check that it’s a real timed ticket from a known seller, not a resold or open-dated voucher that won’t get you through the door.

⭐ Our take

Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Worth It?

Read enough SUMMIT One Vanderbilt reviews and a pattern shows up. People who came for an experience love it. People who came for a straightforward view sometimes leave annoyed at the crowds, the mirrors and the price. Here’s how to tell which group you’re in.

Why it’s worth it

  • Nothing else in NYC looks like it. The mirror rooms are genuinely disorienting in a fun way.
  • Levitation’s glass ledges are the best “stand over nothing” moment in the city.
  • The Chrysler Building up close is a view no other deck gives you.
  • Great for photos, as long as you plan around the reflections.
  • One ticket can cover daylight, sunset and the city lights.
  • You walk in straight from Grand Central.

Why it might not be

  • It gets crowded, and mirrors make crowds feel bigger.
  • Reflections on the glass can get in the way of clean skyline shots.
  • Add-ons push the price up fast.
  • If you just want an open-air, unobstructed 360, other decks do that better.
  • Heights, glass floors and bright light are a lot for some people.
  • On a cloudy day, you’re paying mostly for the rooms.
Best for

Couples, photographers, repeat NYC visitors who’ve already done the Empire State Building, and anyone who wants the deck to be part of the fun, not just a viewpoint.

Consider another deck if

You want the classic open-air panorama, you’re nervous about heights or glass, you’re traveling with very young or sensory-sensitive kids, or the forecast is gray.

🪞 Floor by floor

What Is the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Experience Like?

This is why SUMMIT gets talked about as more than a SUMMIT observatory or a standard SUMMIT One Vanderbilt observation deck. The visit is a sequence of rooms, each built to mess with your sense of space, with the city outside every window. Here’s the order you’ll move through.

B1Entry

Check-in below Grand Central

You enter at the lower level, go through security and ride up in elevators with their own light-and-sound show. Ask staff if you’d rather ride with it switched off.

91Floor

Transcendence, Reflect and Affinity

The first mirror room: mirrored floors, walls and ceilings that make the skyline repeat in every direction. Then Reflect, a Yayoi Kusama installation, and Affinity, a room filled with floating silver orbs that drift around you. A family restroom is on this floor.

92Floor

Transcendence 2, Levitation and Unity

A second mirror space, then Levitation: two glass ledges that stick out over Madison Avenue. Unity closes the floor with a personalized digital installation.

93Floor

Terrace, Après and Ascent

The open-air terrace, Après (a Nordic-style café and bar), the gift shop, and the boarding point for Ascent if your ticket includes it.

Hate the mirrors? SUMMIT has non-reflective “privacy paths” through the mirrored rooms, plus a separate service elevator between the upper floors that skips the light-and-sound effects. Ask any staff member.

🫣 The glass part

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Glass Floor and Levitation

When people say SUMMIT has a glass floor, they usually mean Levitation. It isn’t a whole glass floor. It’s two glass boxes on the 92nd floor that stick out from the side of the building, with glass under your feet and on three sides, and Madison Avenue more than 1,000 feet straight down.

Stepping out is completely optional, and plenty of people watch from inside. There can be a short line at busy times. SUMMIT staff take photos on the ledges for purchase, and depending on crowds you may not be able to hand your own phone to a friend out there, so don’t count on a self-shot photo from the box.

Ascent: the other glass thrill

Ascent is a separate add-on. It’s an all-glass elevator, floor included, that rides up the outside of the tower about 12 stories above the 93rd floor. The ride is short. Is it worth about $24 extra? If you like the idea of standing on a glass floor while it moves, yes. If you’re mainly after views, the terrace gives you nearly the same outlook for free.

🕰 Timing

Best Time to Visit SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

There’s no single best time to visit SUMMIT One Vanderbilt; it depends on what you want out of the trip. Here’s what each part of the day gives you.

MorningCheapest slots, clearest air on many days, sharp landmark detail. Opening hour itself can have a line; mid-morning is calmer.
AfternoonBright, busy and warm on the glass. Sun on the west-facing windows can add glare and reflections.
SunsetDaylight, golden hour and the lights coming on, all in one ticket. Costs the most and sells out first.
NightThe mirror rooms fill with reflected city lights. Distant landmarks fade, but the mood is unbeatable for a date.

Are SUMMIT sunset tickets worth it?

On a clear day, usually. Book an entry slot 45 to 60 minutes before sunset, which gives you time to get through security and the 91st-floor rooms while it’s still light, then catch the sunset and stay as the city lights up. That’s three versions of the view for one ticket.

Sunset time shifts a lot through the year, from around 4:30pm in December to past 8:30pm in late June, so check the exact time for your date before you pick a slot. And because SUMMIT tickets are final sale, a hazy or overcast forecast is a good reason to choose a cheaper daytime slot instead of paying the premium.

🌃 After dark

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt at Night

Seeing SUMMIT One Vanderbilt at night is like visiting a different attraction. In the mirror rooms, every lit window in Midtown repeats across the floor and ceiling, so it feels like walking through the skyline. The Chrysler Building’s crown lights up right outside, and the Empire State Building glows to the south.

What you lose: long-distance detail. The bridges, the harbor and the far edges of the city turn into points of light. Glass also reflects the room back at you after dark, which makes photos through windows harder. The terrace is the best spot for night shots.

For couples, a night slot with a drink at Après is the strongest SUMMIT date. With last entry at 10:30pm, it slots in easily after dinner, or even after an early show.

🕗 Plan around it

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Hours

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt hours are 8am to midnight daily, with last entry at 10:30pm. Hours can change for private events and holidays, so check your date on SUMMIT’s site if you’re planning around a specific night like New Year’s Eve.

⏳ Time budget

How Long Should You Allow for SUMMIT One Vanderbilt?

SUMMIT plans around about 90 minutes, and that’s a fair middle estimate. A quick visit with no stops can take an hour. Add Ascent, a drink at Après, a lot of photos or a sunset wait, and two to three hours is realistic. Add 15 to 30 minutes for security and elevator lines at busy times, especially at opening and around sunset.

🔭 What’s out there

What Can You See From SUMMIT One Vanderbilt?

The standout is the Chrysler Building, a couple of blocks east on 42nd Street and closer here than from any other deck. Look south for the Empire State Building and, past it, Lower Manhattan and One World Trade Center. To the north, Midtown’s towers lead toward Central Park. East, you get the river and the bridges; west, the Hudson on clear days. Visibility depends on the weather and where in the rooms you’re standing; the terrace gives the cleanest lines.

  • You love creative photos
  • It’s a date or a repeat trip
  • You’re already at Grand Central

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt vs Empire State Building

This one is new versus classic. The Empire State Building is the New York landmark, with Art Deco lobbies, an exhibit on its history and the open-air 86th-floor deck you’ve seen in a hundred movies. SUMMIT is a modern, designed experience that’s more about how the space makes you feel. At night both are great; in bad weather, SUMMIT’s indoor rooms hold up better.

Choose SUMMIT if…

  • You’ve already done the Empire State Building
  • You want something new and interactive
  • Photos are a big part of the plan

Choose the Empire State Building if…

  • It’s your first NYC trip
  • History and architecture matter to you
  • You want the famous open-air deck

See our Empire State Building guide for tickets and timing.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt vs Edge NYC

Both lean into thrills. Edge, at Hudson Yards on the far West Side, is a big outdoor deck that juts into the air, with a glass floor section and the best sunset angle over the Hudson. SUMMIT is mostly indoors in Midtown East, built around mirrors, with a smaller terrace. For a pure open-air thrill and Hudson River sunsets, Edge wins. For the art-and-mirrors experience and Midtown views, it’s SUMMIT.

Our Edge NYC guide covers its tickets, the glass floor and when to time a sunset visit.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt vs One World Observatory

These two sit at opposite ends of Manhattan and answer different questions. One World Observatory, on floors 100 to 102 of One World Trade Center, is the highest view in the city and fully enclosed behind glass. It’s the pick for Lower Manhattan, the harbor and the Statue of Liberty, and it fits neatly into a downtown day with the 9/11 Memorial. SUMMIT is the Midtown experience: closer to the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building, and built around the rooms as much as the view. If your plans are downtown, go to One World; if you’re near Grand Central or want the mirrors, SUMMIT.

See our One World Observatory guide for tickets, timing and how to get there.

🚇 Find the door

Where Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt?

SUMMIT is in One Vanderbilt, the tall tower on the west side of Grand Central Terminal at 45 East 42nd Street, between Madison and Vanderbilt Avenues. The building is offices; the attraction has its own entrance.

There are three ways in: from Grand Central’s Main Concourse, through the Transit Hall at the corner of Vanderbilt Avenue and 43rd Street, or at street level at 45 East 42nd Street. Follow the SUMMIT signs, not the office lobby.

How to get to SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

Subway: Grand Central–42 St station (4, 5, 6, 7 and the S shuttle to Times Square) puts you inside the terminal.

Train: Metro-North arrives directly in Grand Central, and the LIRR runs to Grand Central Madison underneath it.

Walking: About 5 minutes from Bryant Park, and about 10 from Times Square or Rockefeller Center.

Taxi or rideshare: Ask for 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue. Traffic around Grand Central is heavy, so the subway is often faster.

👟 Dress for mirrors

What Should You Wear to SUMMIT One Vanderbilt?

Two things matter here: the floors and the shoes. Many of SUMMIT’s floors are mirrors, which is why SUMMIT recommends pants, shorts or tights. If you’re wearing a dress or skirt, you can use the non-reflective privacy paths through those rooms. Stilettos, work boots, cleats and other footwear that can damage the floors aren’t allowed, so wear comfortable, flat shoes.

Bring sunglasses on a sunny day; the mirrored rooms get very bright. If you forget, SUMMIT has them available.

Photography tips for SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

Wear a solid, bold color. It stands out against the endless reflections and silver orbs. All-black can get lost against a night sky.

Shoot into the mirrors, not the windows. The best shots use the reflections. For the skyline, use the terrace or press your phone close to the glass to cut glare.

Leave the gear. SUMMIT doesn’t allow selfie sticks, large tripods, professional A/V equipment or drones. Large bags, suitcases and carry-ons aren’t allowed either, so travel light.

🧒 Families

Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Good for Kids?

A lot of kids think the orb room is the best thing in New York. But SUMMIT is bright, loud, mirrored, high up and often crowded, and SUMMIT’s own terms note it may not suit every younger child. Children 5 and under enter free with a ticketed adult, and everyone under 16 has to stay with an adult throughout. Foldable strollers are welcome but must fit in the elevators. If your child is sensitive to noise, crowds or heights, a morning slot and the low-intensity route on SUMMIT’s sensory map make a big difference.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Accessibility

All levels are wheelchair accessible, with a limited number of wheelchairs available first-come, first-served. A separate service elevator links the upper floors without the light-and-sound effects. SUMMIT offers sensory maps, earplugs and sunglasses on request, and non-reflective paths around the mirrored floors. Service animals are welcome; emotional support animals and pets aren’t. For a sighted guide or an ASL interpreter, SUMMIT asks for at least three weeks’ notice through its contact form. Flashing lights and some effects may affect visitors with epilepsy or vertigo.

🌧 Gray days

What Happens if the Weather Is Bad?

SUMMIT stays open in most weather, and since most of it is indoors, the mirror rooms and art work fine in the rain. The problem is the view: low clouds can wipe out the skyline completely, which is a lot of money to spend looking at fog. SUMMIT’s ticket terms say sales are final, with no refunds for weather. So check the forecast, and if it looks gray, book closer to the day or choose a reseller ticket with flexible cancellation terms.

❓ Quick answers

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt FAQ

How much are SUMMIT One Vanderbilt tickets?

General admission starts at $44 for adults when booked online, plus a $3 processing fee per order. Evening and sunset slots cost more, and bundles with Ascent or a drink at Après run from about $58 to $82. Prices move by date and time, so check your exact slot before you buy.

Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt worth it?

It is worth it if you want more than a view: the mirrored rooms, the glass Levitation ledges and the art installations are the point. If you mainly want a classic, unobstructed skyline from an open-air deck, Top of the Rock or the Empire State Building may suit you better.

What is the best time to visit SUMMIT One Vanderbilt?

Mid-morning is usually the calmest and cheapest. Arriving 45 to 60 minutes before sunset lets you see the city in daylight, at sunset and after dark, but those slots cost more and sell out first. Pick night if you care most about the lights and the mirror effects.

Is SUMMIT better during the day or at night?

Day is better for spotting landmarks and for clean photos of the skyline. Night turns the mirrored rooms into a field of reflected city lights and feels more like a night out, but distant landmarks fade and glass reflections are harder to shoot through.

Are SUMMIT sunset tickets worth it?

Usually yes if the forecast is clear and you plan to stay an hour or more, because you get daylight, sunset and night in one ticket. On a cloudy or hazy day the premium buys you very little, and tickets are final sale, so watch the forecast before you book.

How long does SUMMIT One Vanderbilt take?

Plan on about 90 minutes for the full experience. Allow two hours or more if you add Ascent, stop for a drink at Après, take a lot of photos or stay through sunset.

Does SUMMIT One Vanderbilt have a glass floor?

Yes. Levitation, on the 92nd floor, is a pair of glass-bottomed ledges that stick out from the building more than 1,000 feet above Madison Avenue. Stepping out is optional. Ascent, an add-on, is a glass-floored elevator that rides up the outside of the tower.

Is SUMMIT better than Top of the Rock?

They are different trips. SUMMIT is an immersive art-and-view experience with mirrors and glass. Top of the Rock is a classic open-air deck with the best straight-on view of the Empire State Building and Central Park. Choose SUMMIT for the experience and Top of the Rock for the panorama.

Is SUMMIT better than the Empire State Building?

SUMMIT is newer and more designed. The Empire State Building is the history and the open-air 86th floor deck. First-time visitors who want the classic New York moment usually pick the Empire State Building; visitors who want something they have not seen before pick SUMMIT.

What floor is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt on?

You enter on level B1, below Grand Central’s Main Concourse, and the experience itself covers the 91st, 92nd and 93rd floors. The 93rd floor has the outdoor terrace, Après and the Ascent elevator.

Can you visit SUMMIT if it rains?

Yes. Most of SUMMIT is indoors, so the mirrored rooms and art still work in the rain, but low clouds can hide the view and outdoor features may be limited. SUMMIT’s ticket terms say tickets are non-refundable, including for weather, so check the forecast before you choose a date.

Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt good for kids?

Many kids love the mirrors and the floating silver balloons, and children 5 and under enter free with an adult ticket. It is a bright, loud, crowded space with heights and glass, so sensitive or very young children may find it overwhelming. Under-16s must stay with an adult.

Pick Your Slot, Then Pick Your Ticket

Decide when you want to go first: morning for value, the hour before sunset for the full show, or night for the lights. Then choose general admission or add Ascent if the glass elevator sounds like your kind of fun.

Making a day of it? Pair SUMMIT with Rockefeller Center, a short walk west.
