Pulitzer Prize finalist Here There Are Blueberries comes to Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in NYC beginning November 2, 2026. Written by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich and directed by Kaufman, the limited engagement opens November 9 and runs through January 10, 2027.

It’s a documentary play built from a true story. In 2007, a photo album arrived at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and it showed something its archivists had never seen. This guide covers Broadway tickets, dates, the cast, the real history behind the play, runtime, age fit and reviews, so you can decide whether it’s your night and which performance to book.

Buying Guide

Here There Are Blueberries Tickets

Here There Are Blueberries tickets for the Broadway run are on sale now, with Telecharge as the official seller. TDF’s listing for the run shows full-price tickets from $49 up to $297 as of October 10. Resale listings sit alongside the official ones, and those prices move with demand, so compare the total checkout price, fees included, for the exact seats you want.

If you need specific seats

Book early and pick the row

Center orchestra and front mezzanine are what most people want for a play like this. Close faces and clean sightlines matter more here than spectacle. Buying earlier gives you the widest choice.

If you’re flexible

Compare several performances

Prices and open seats vary from night to night across an eight-week run. Check a few dates side by side, including a weekday matinee or evening, before you settle on one.

Previews vs. after opening

Previews start November 2, and opening night is November 9. During previews the company is still fine-tuning the show in front of an audience, which some theatergoers love and others prefer to skip. Waiting until after November 9 means you can read the Broadway reviews first. Booking a preview means you see it before the critics weigh in. Either is a reasonable choice. Just know which one you’re buying.

For seat-by-seat advice on the room itself, see the Ethel Barrymore Theatre seating guide.

Lower-Priced Options

Finding Lower-Priced Here There Are Blueberries Tickets

As of October 10, the production hasn’t announced a rush, lottery or student ticket program, and there’s no TKTS listing yet. Don’t trust any promo code or “rush” offer you can’t trace back to the official production or Telecharge. Here’s what actually works for now:

  • Start at the bottom of the official range. Full-price seats were listed from $49 at on-sale, and the cheapest official seats usually go first.
  • Try midweek. Comparing a few weekday performances often turns up better seats for the money than one weekend date.
  • Watch TKTS once previews start. If the show appears there, that’s the official same-day discount route. Check our last-minute Broadway tickets guide for how it works.
  • Check back for programs. We’ll add any rush or lottery the production announces. Our Broadway rush and lottery guide tracks the shows that run them.

Who Made It

Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich

Moisés Kaufman conceived Here There Are Blueberries and directs it, and he co-wrote it with Amanda Gronich. Kaufman founded Tectonic Theater Project, the company behind The Laramie Project and Gross Indecency. Tectonic is known for building plays out of interviews, documents and research, and this piece was developed the same way. Company members Scott Barrow, Amy Marie Seidel, Frances Uku and Grant James Varjas are credited as devisers.

Gronich is a longtime Tectonic collaborator and an equal author of the script. She and Kaufman spent years shaping the archival record and interviews into the play you’ll see. The design team includes Derek McLane (sets), Dede Ayite (costumes), David Lander (lighting), Bobby McElver (sound) and David Bengali, whose projections won a Lucille Lortel Award for the New York run.

The Play

What Is Here There Are Blueberries About?

Here There Are Blueberries begins with a real-life mystery. In 2007, an album of photographs from the Nazi era reached an archivist at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The pictures came from Auschwitz, but they didn’t show prisoners. They showed the camp’s SS staff off duty, relaxing, socializing and smiling.

The play follows the work of identifying who is in those photographs and what they reveal. It also follows the people the album reached decades later, including descendants of those pictured. The Here There Are Blueberries play doesn’t recreate the camp. It looks hard at ordinary moments recorded alongside extraordinary atrocity, and asks what we owe the truth when we find it.

The title

The title translates a handwritten caption in the album, “Hier gibt es Blaubeeren.” It sits beside photographs of young women who worked at Auschwitz as SS auxiliaries, eating bowls of blueberries.

Fact, Not Fiction

Is Here There Are Blueberries Based on a True Story?

Yes. It’s documentary theater rooted in real events and real research. The album exists, the archivists who worked on it are real people, and many of the people represented on stage are real. Tectonic built the script from historical records and interviews, the same approach behind The Laramie Project. As in any stage adaptation, the material has been shaped for the theater, but the core story and the photographs are real.

The Source

The Auschwitz Album Behind the Play

The album belonged to Karl Höcker, an SS officer at Auschwitz. A U.S. Army counterintelligence officer found it after the war and kept it for decades before it reached the Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2007. Its pages show camp personnel at leisure during 1944. For historians, its value lay in what it captured: perpetrators photographed as an ordinary social circle.

That’s the material the play is made of. Archival research, the work of putting names to faces, and the conversations that followed all became the structure of the theatrical investigation. You don’t need to know any of this before you go. The play walks you through it.

Timing

How Long Is Here There Are Blueberries?

TDF’s listing for the Broadway run puts it at about 90 minutes with no intermission. The production hasn’t posted an official Broadway running time yet, and we’ll confirm it once previews begin. Plan for a one-act evening: you’ll be out with plenty of time for a late dinner, and there’s no break, so use the restroom before you take your seat.

Who It’s For

Is Here There Are Blueberries Appropriate for Kids?

The production hasn’t published official Broadway age guidance, and we won’t make up a number. What we can tell you is that the play deals directly with the Holocaust and with perpetrators at Auschwitz. It isn’t graphic spectacle, but it’s serious, adult material. For teens studying this history, it can be a powerful night, and parents are the best judges of readiness. For younger children, it’s not the right pick.
